Trypsin and chymotrypsin are serine proteases. Briefly explain the common catalytic features of serine protease.

The common catalytic features are the following:

• active site serine (Ser-OH)
• follows Ping Pong Bi Bi mechanism
• catalytic triad of His, Ser, Asp
• binding pocket for residue side chain
• rate determining tetrahedral intermediate
• acyl-enzyme intermediate
• acid-base catalysis
